Mood, libido, and metabolism all depend on your hormones, which is why it's so valuable to look at them together. The Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test gives you the full picture to identify any imbalances directly affecting overall metabolic function. As we age, it's even more important to keep hormones in check in order to manage stress effectively, maintain a healthy weight, and have the energy you need. For anyone working toward a healthy weight, this test takes all key hormones into account: thyroid function, adrenal output, blood sugar, and vitamin D status.

What’s Measured
  • Estradiol & Progesterone: The two most important hormones in the female body, individual levels as well as the ratio Pg/E2 - a key indicator of estrogen dominance Estradiol (E2) is the primary form of estrogen created in the ovaries and also in small amounts by the adrenal glands and fat cells.
  • Optimal levels in women promote a healthy distribution of fat in the hips, thighs, breasts, and subcutaneously. Excess estrogen, coupled with low progesterone, can lead to unhealthy surplus weight gain in these areas. Sufficient levels of vitamin D, estrogen, and testosterone are important for maintaining bone health in the menopause years. Men generally have much lower levels of estradiol and higher testosterone than women.
  • In overweight men, testosterone levels drop and estrogens rise, creating the same problematic weight gain in the hips, thighs, and breasts (gynecomastia). Progesterone (Pg) is the hormone crucial for menstrual cycle regulation and pregnancy maintenance. Progesterone is produced mainly in the ovaries following ovulation each month.
  • Low progesterone is common due to high stress when the body will produce more cortisol instead of progesterone, which has an impact on the reproductive system. Adrenals under pressure create imbalances of other hormones, e.g., stealing progesterone away from its reproductive duties to make extra cortisol, or inhibiting thyroid function and metabolism.
  • The individual levels of estrogen and progesterone are key, but the ratio is as important to assess. A low ratio occurs when progesterone is low relative to estrogen, commonly known as estrogen dominance. Imbalances in these two hormones can lead to weight gain in the hips and thighs, water retention, and a sluggish metabolism.
  • In general, either decreasing estrogen and/or increasing progesterone are appropriate. Testosterone & DHEA: Key sex hormones (androgens) Testosterone (male dominant) and DHEA are key sex hormones that increase lean muscle mass and metabolic rate. Androgens are key factors for hair health. Testosterone can be elevated in women due to stress and/or PCOS. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone that your body naturally produces in the adrenal gland.
  • DHEA helps produce other hormones, including testosterone and estrogen. Natural DHEA levels peak in early adulthood and then slowly fall as you age. Low testosterone and low DHEA can lead to decreased muscle mass with a corresponding increase in body fat, decreased metabolic rate, and excess abdominal weight gain.
  • Low levels can also reduce vitality and exercise tolerance. In women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), high testosterone and DHEA are linked to insulin resistance and weight gain, particularly around the middle. Sufficient levels of vitamin D, estrogen, and testosterone are important for maintaining bone health in the menopause years. Cortisol: Produced by the adrenal glands to keep up with our daily stress response
  • Adequate cortisol production is essential to function optimally; both chronic over- or underproduction can lead to a wide range of health issues over time. Under stress, excessive cortisol production, particularly in connection with insulin, can promote fat storage in abdominal fat stores. This visceral type of fat is closely associated with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Chronically elevated cortisol is a known risk factor for prediabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Low cortisol can lead to chronic fatigue, low energy, food and sugar cravings, poor exercise tolerance or recovery, and low immune reserves. Vitamin D: Vitamin D is actually a hormone mainly produced when our skin is exposed to sunlight Adequate levels of active vitamin D3 can help support hormone balance. Deficiency can be associated with hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin), increased belly fat, and skin issues like psoriasis and acne. Sufficient levels of vitamin D, estrogen, and testosterone are important for maintaining bone health in the menopause years.
  • Vitamin D levels within the optimal ranges have been found to be associated with a decrease of many conditions, including autoimmune diseases and cancer. Thyroid: Comprehensive analysis of all thyroid markers T4, T3, TSH, and TPO antibodies to get a complete picture of thyroid health and function The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland that sits behind and below the Adam's apple.
  • A wide range of factors from hormone imbalances to mineral deficiencies and environmental pollutants can interfere with thyroid production, leading to a wide range of health problems. Levels of key thyroid hormones can indicate whether there is a thyroid imbalance. Our bodies produce several thyroid hormones, but two are absolutely essential: thyroxine or T4, the most abundant in the body; and triiodothyronine or T3, the more active of the two.
  • The others are also important for optimal health. Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Produced by the pituitary gland, TSH acts on the thyroid gland to stimulate production of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4). Free T4 - Thyroxine: The predominant hormone produced by the thyroid gland, T4 is converted to its active form, T3, within cells. Total T4 - Thyroxine: Total T4 includes both free T4 and protein-bound T4 and is an indicator of the thyroid gland's ability to synthesize, process, and release T4 into the bloodstream.
  • Free T3 - Triiodothyronine: T3 is the active thyroid hormone that regulates the metabolic activity of cells. TPOab - Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies: Thyroid peroxidase is an enzyme involved in thyroid hormone production. The body produces antibodies, including TPOab, that attack the thyroid gland in autoimmune thyroiditis and Hashimoto's. Elevations, even within the high-normal range, can be linked with hypothyroidism, low metabolic rate, and obesity. Hypothyroidism is also linked to elevated cortisol levels that can increase the production of binding proteins that reduce thyroid hormone bioavailability.
  • Hemoglobin A1c: Blood sugar regulation Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a measure of red blood cell hemoglobin glycation and reflects the average blood glucose for the previous 3 months. The American Diabetes Association recommends the following HbA1c levels: Normal: 6.5%

Easy Peasy

These instructions were so easy to follow. I was a little intimidated since this is a test you need to do throughout the day. However, the instructions allowed me to be able to set alarms on my phone for the day of testing and I was able to stay on track without any issues. Highly recommend!

I couldn't be more grateful I found this lab to help me figure out exactly what's going on with my hormones and stress instead of getting the run around

Not a hard test, just read the instructions carefully! Now waiting on results.

Difficult

The amount of saliva required seems very high and is difficult to come up with in each of 4 time collection zones.

I also am on my 2nd time submitting because my first collection was unacceptable but no reason or tips were provided for my second time.

A stressful situation

I haven't gotten results yet, but I also purchased the Minerals and Metals test. I purchased that test first and then added the Stress, Mood and Metabolism. I registered both tests and sent samples for both tests at the same time but only received confirmation that one of them was received. I am not even sure which one it was. I am pretty anxious because it had all my personal information with it. I have emailed for support but I am upset that this happened and that my initial test purchase was not honored and may even be lost in the mail somewhere. It's pretty ironic that the test for stress actually created a great deal of stress for me. Regrets.

Good info

This test provides great info and analysis of important markers. Mostly easy to do. I have a hard time with the blood spots and have to really follow the prep directions to get the needed spots on the cards.

Jennifer W. (Sterling, IL, US)
Easy to do at home

I took this test and was so nervous I was going to mess it up. But I made sure to read the directions SEVERAL times prior to conducting the test and read them again prior to each step just so I did not mess it up. I did accidently drop some blood on the test, but it did not seem to mess up my test since I received my results without having to redo the test. I loved that I received a copy of my test so that I could save and reference when I get blood tests through the VA - which I do not believe are within appropriate levels anymore. But at least this gave me a baseline and planning to do another test upon my completion with the Warrior Babe program.

Blood test

The dotted circles naturally indicate a “fill line” a smaller inner circle or “1” would help indicate one drop each. I have worked in a lab for 10 years and those are the same circle for PKU tests which need to be filled. I hope I don’t have to do mine again.

Detailed results, support from wellness coach!

This Stress Mood Metabolism kit test gave good detailed results through the wellness coach and a pdf to follow along with. The conversation and recommendations were quality, not pushy, and I appreciate that I have more clarity on my sex hormones, cortisol levels, etc.
for the procedures in the test, first important step is to read through the instructions! for a menstruating female be sure to take the test only at the appropriate time of your cycle. then you can register it at that time. Stay hydrated and carve out the full day of attention needed for this test. Definitely a dovetail piece to my health and I appreciate the collab with WB.

So much spit! Make a schedule

The test isn't hard, but it is time consuming. Each vile takes closer to 45 minutes than the 15-20 stated in the directions. It is complicated, especially if you eat every 2-3 hours, if you don't make a schedule.

Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test

I received my test promptly but ran into a small issue completing it so I emailed support and received a timely answer that helped tremendously. I am currently waiting on a new shipment for the blood sample and have frozen my saliva tests as requested. I’ll be sending it all in together once I have completed the blood test. Customer service gets a high rating and I’m hoping to receive the shipment soon. I’m glad to review again once I’ve received my test results.
