Testosterone plays a key role in men's health and is responsible for everything from muscle size/strength to sex drive and bone health. As men age, it's common for testosterone levels to drop, leading to a decrease in ambition, libido, energy and overall vitality. While testosterone is a critical component, it may not provide the full picture of men's hormonal health. In order to go deeper, this comprehensive test also looks at the precursor hormone DHEA, plus cortisol to understand how the balance of these related hormones may be affecting your health.

Balancing Male Hormones

What is Measured

Testosterone

Testosterone is the primary sex hormone and anabolic steroid, present in both men and women.

Testosterone is produced in the adrenal cortex and in the testes in men. Free testosterone is testosterone unbounded to a protein structure, and therefore circulating through the body. The amount of this free testosterone is a good indicator of how much testosterone is present in your body overall.

Free testosterone is a biologically active form of this important hormone. This test can help identify where your current levels stand.

+
DHEA

DHEA is a hormone primarily produced in the adrenal glands from cholesterol.

DHEA is the highest circulating steroid in your body and decreases naturally as we age. DHEA is known as a precursor hormone, which is a chemical that gets converted into other hormones in the body including testosterone and estrogen (E2).

Studies have also shown a direct relationship between DHEA and Cortisol, both playing a key role in stress response.

+
Cortisol

Known as the "stress hormone", production is controlled primarily by the adrenal glands.

In times of crisis or stress, your adrenal gland releases cortisol which is responsible for the common "flight or fight" response. While cortisol is the hormone that causes high blood pressure, increased breathing, and other physiological responses to stress, DHEA is known to offset the effects of cortisol, bringing your body back into balance. Looking at your DHEA to Cortisol ratio can give you a better picture of your body's overall stress response.

Excellent Test For Measuring Adrenal Fatigue

Living in a high stress state every day, I felt like I was always on high alert from morning to the moment I closed my eyes at night. This test was eye opening in learning about how imbalanced my cortisol curve was. I immediately began a plan for improving my adrenals, and calming the body with magnesium and vitamin B complex and completely reversed my state of chronic stress. I recommend this test and the Stress, Mood & Metabolism to many of my clients whom also share similar results.
