What’s Measured
- Inflammatory Markers: The ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids as indicators of overall inflammation in the body.
- Omega-3s and omega-6s are essential in the diet, meaning that our body cannot manufacture them on its own.
- Omega-6s serve important purposes; however, they are more widely available in the diet; therefore, we often see on this test that there is an imbalance between inflammatory and anti-inflammatory fats.
- Omega-6s are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), which tend to accumulate in the body over time.
- Western diets especially are extremely high in linoleic acid and other omega-6s.
- The amount of omega-6 fatty acids found in body fat stores has increased by more than 200% in the past 50 years with the introduction of cheap vegetable oils.
- Currently, average body fat storage of omega-6s to omega-3s is around 15:1.
- Omega-3 fatty acids are found in animal products as well as certain seeds like chia and flaxseed.
- Boosting omega-3 fatty acids can rein in the ratio of proinflammatory omega-6s.
- An ideal ratio is around 5:1 omega-6s to omega-3, but we recommend an even lower ratio of 3:1 for optimal health.

- Results & Review: Once your samples have been processed, you will receive an invitation through EquiLife's health portal to schedule your one-on-one health coaching call to review your results in depth.

What To Expect
- How will I receive my results? Once you receive your at-home lab test, please follow the instructions provided to register your test. Once your sample(s) are sent to one of our CLIA-certified labs, it will take approximately 3 weeks for your results to be returned, during which time you will receive information on how to schedule your one-on-one health coaching call.
- What if I can't get enough blood to fill my spot card? If more blood is needed, wipe with an alcohol pad again and massage finger to assist blood flow. Be sure to use the additional lancets provided as each lancet is for one-time use only. - Do I need to avoid anything prior to collecting my blood sample? No, you may continue eating and taking supplements as normal. Please just note if currently taking additional omega supplements so you can share with your health coach upon review of your results.
- Do at-home lab tests expire? All at-home lab tests expire 6 months from their purchase date. To ensure you will receive your results, please be sure to send all samples for completed lab tests prior to the 6-month expiration date. Unfortunately, there can be no returns or replacement lab tests sent after the 6-month time frame. Please remember to register your labs prior to sending your sample to the laboratory.

What does the Inflammation Test measure?
It measures two inflammation markers from a dried blood spot, based on the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in your blood, as an indicator of overall inflammation in the body.
How do I collect my sample?
With a simple finger prick at home. Place a few drops of blood on the collection card, follow the included instructions, and return the card to our CLIA-certified laboratory in the packaging provided.
How long do results take?
Approximately three weeks after the laboratory receives your sample. Your results are delivered through EquiLife's health portal with an invitation to schedule your 30-minute one-on-one health coaching call.
Is this a diagnostic test?
No. EquiLife labs are functional wellness tests processed at CLIA-certified laboratories. They give you and your health coach information about your current status and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Please share your results with your healthcare provider for any medical questions.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
