Mood & Mind Neurotransmitter Test

Discover How to Improve Your Mood, Focus & Energy
30-Minute Health Coaching Call Included

Are you experiencing ongoing mood issues like anxiety or depression, having trouble sleeping or even experiencing learning challenges? An imbalance in neurotransmitter levels could be the root cause. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that relay information from one nerve to another. When they are out of balance the body may be over or under stimulated, which can trigger a range of neurological or psychological issues. The Mood & Mind Neurotransmitter test will measure levels of calming and energizing neurotransmitters and their metabolites, identify the nature of any imbalance and make sure you have the right solutions to bring your body back to equilibrium.

Brain Chemical Messengers

What Is Measured

Inhibitory Biomarkers

Serotonin, 5-HIAA, GABA, Glycine

Inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitters block or prevent the chemical message from being passed along any farther.

  • Serotonin: Helps regulate mood, sleep patterns, sexuality, anxiety, appetite and pain. Diseases associated with serotonin imbalance include seasonal affective disorder, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia and chronic pain.

  • 5-HIAA: A metabolite of serotonin

  • GABA: The most common inhibitory neurotransmitter of your nervous system, particularly in your brain. It regulates brain activity to prevent problems in the areas of anxiety, irritability, concentration, sleep, seizures and depression.

  • Glycine: The most common inhibitory neurotransmitter in your spinal cord. Glycine is involved in controlling hearing processing, pain transmission and metabolism

Excitatory Biomarkers

Glutamate, histamine, PEA, dopamine, DOVAC, HVA, norepinephrine, epinephrine, norepinephrine:epinephrine ratio, VMA

Excitatory (energizing) neurotransmitters "excite" the neuron and cause it to "fire off the message," meaning, the message continues to be passed along to the next cell.

  • Glutamate: Functions as the major excitatory neurotransmitter and metabolic fuel throughout the body. Clinically, high glutamate is suspected in anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, depression and sleep issues and clinically low glutamate is implicated in depression, chronic fatigue, lack of concentration, low energy levels, and sleep disturbances.

  • Histamine is a neurotransmitter and immunomodulator. It regulates body functions including wakefulness, feeding behavior and motivation.

  • PEA: Serves as a biomarker for ADHD.

  • Dopamine: Serves as the reward and pleasure center in the brain, and messenger of the sympathetic nervous system in the periphery.

  • DOPAC and HVA: Metabolites of dopamine.

  • Norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and epinephrine(adrenaline): Regulate the "fight or flight" response to fear and stress. These neurotransmitters stimulate your body's response by increasing your heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, blood sugar and blood flow to your muscles, as well as heighten attention and focus to allow you to act or react to different stressors.

  • Ratio: Norepi/Epi. Having too much or too little of either can have noticeable effects on your health. An elevated ratio of Norepi/Epi may be consistent with poor conversion of norepinephrine to epinephrine.

  • VMA: A metabolite of norepinephrine and epinephrine.

Super Convenient and Helpful!

I had this test done with a Naturopath 3 years ago because I suspected a chemical imbalance was going on. I was having panic attacks regularly and this test was able to help me determine what was going on with the help of my doctor. Fast forward three years and I was having the same symptoms as before and I wanted to check that it was the same imbalance so I could fix the problem with supplements rather than go on medication. This is the fastest and easiest way I have encountered to have these tests done. Thank you.
